A Privileged Encounter

On 29th August 2023, Founders and students from the Pan-Asia International School’s Journalism Club were honored to meet and  were given the chance to carry out an interview with Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand. He was a former leader of the Prachachart Party before resigning according to the constitution to serve in the Speaker role. Before his entry into politics, he started his career as an educator and was appointed the position of head teacher at a university in the southern province of Narathiwat, Thailand, when he was just 20 years old.

The first question revolved around his sentiments regarding his recent achievement as the Speaker of Thailand’s House of Representatives. In response to the question, Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha expressed deep gratitude for his role as the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand. He promised to work diligently and do his best to serve the interests and welfare of the people of Thailand and was dedicated to make Thailand a better place for its citizens.

Vision for Education

We also asked him about his vision on the Thai education system, he shared his thoughts on what schools in Thailand should do to better prepare students for future challenges. From his perspective, the Thai education system needs to make changes starting from primary grades. Thai schools should focus more on teaching critical thinking instead of just memorizing facts to ensure that our education system prepares students effectively for the challenges of tomorrow.  The education system should prepare students to keep learning and adapt in the world that new technologies are constantly emerging and evolving.

A Day to Remember

Lastly, we are thankful for his time and we’re grateful to be the first group of students who get a chance to enter the parliament building and interview the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand. During our meeting, Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha extended a warm welcome to us and generously shared valuable life lessons and insightful perspectives.
