PAIS Biology Students Field Trip to Chulalongkorn Medical Laboratory

On the 15th and 16th of September 2016, PAIS High school Biology students took a field trip to Chulalongkorn Medical Laboratory.  The students took a tour of the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University, and learned about the International Programs now available for English speaking students to study medicine.

The students then split into groups and participated in 5 activities learning about
- Con-focal Microscopes: Use of advanced con-focal microscopes to observe cells and organelles.
- Stem cell culture: The methods used to grow stem cells for laboratory experiments.
- ICPMS: The use of superheated plasma to identify the elements found in tissue samples.
- PCR: The use of the polymerase chain reaction to copy DNA for analysis.
- Gross Anatomy: The dissection of human cadavers by medical students to learn about anatomy.

We hope our students took a chance to exercise their knowledge of biology, to learn about opportunities to study medicine in the future, and finally to have some fun.
