Standard one: World History I Students will understand the economic importance of trade and how routes taken were instrumental in cultural exchange. Benchmarks 1.1 Students will know the extent and importance trade and the routes taken, including the silk routes to china. 1.2 Students will know relationship of trade to the growth of Central Asian and Middle Eastern Cities. 1.3 Student will explain why European nations sent explorers westward. 1.4 Students will know how overseas expansion led to growth of commerce. 1.5 Students will identify the major economic effects of the European colonial period. 1.6 Students will describe the growth of commerce and towns in china. Standard Two: World History I Students will understand the development of Indian history and the intellectual and artistic achievements. Benchmarks 2.1 Students will know the origins of Indian Civilization in the Indus Valley. 2.2 Students will understand the evolution and central principles of practices in India. 2.3 Students will know the artistic and intellectual achievements and understand the development of the decimal system. 2.4 Students will describe the growth of British influence in India and the emergence of the Raj. Standard Three: World History I Students will understand the major reasons for the continuity of Chinese civilization through the nineteenth century. Benchmarks 3.1 Students will be able to explain the role of kinship and Confucianism in maintaining order and hierarchy. 3.2 Students will understand the political order established by the various dynasties that ruled China. 3.3 Students will be able to explain the role of the civil servants and scholars in maintaining a stable political and economic order. 3.4 Students will describe the importance of agriculture to the development of the Chinese economy to 1800. 3.5 Students will be able to summarize the major reasons for the continuity of Chinese civilization through the nineteenth century. Standard Four: World History I Students will understand the major economic, political and religious developments in Japanese history to 1800. Benchmarks 4.1 Students will understand the evolution of Shin to and Japanese Buddhism. 4.2 Students will understand the development of feudalism in Japan. 4.3 Students will be able to describe the rise of Shoguns and the role of the Samurai. 4.4 Students will be able to describe Japan’s cultural and economic relationship to china and Korea. 4.5 Students will be able to describe the influences and consequences of Japanese isolationism to 1800. 4.6 Students will be able to explain how Korea has been both bottle ground and a cultural bridge between China and Japan. Standard Five: World History I Students will understand the origins of development of the Renaissance including key figures of the period. Benchmarks 5.1 Describe the accomplishments of Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Raphael, Shakespeare and Gutenberg. 5.2 Know that the Renaissance began in Florence in the fourteenth century. 5.3 Know that Greek and Arabic knowledge were assimilated from Southeastern Europe and Southwest Asia as well as Spain. |
