a. PLEASE NOTE: If the student demonstrates difficulty with English, he/she may be admitted with the
provision that he/she will seek additional tutoring in English until he/she is up to the required standard. If the student’s language proficiency is very low, he/she may be admitted to PAIS and required to take Intensive English classes for as long as is required for the student to reach an intermediate level of English language proficiency. Upon determination that a student has attained a minimum of intermediate English language proficiency, the student will become eligible to join the mainstream curriculum.
b. At the Early Childhood level (Pre-Nursery to Kindergarten) children are screened to determine developmental stages in respect to overall knowledge, language development, motor skills, and social and emotional development. A child’s performance in these areas should be those expected for the age of the child. Special emphasis is placed on language development. At the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten level, pre-academic concepts and skills in the areas of reading and mathematics are screened as well.
c. At the Primary, Middle, and High school levels (Grades 1-10) students are assessed in the following areas and are expected to meet the norm in line with the child's age and grade level: |
i. Reading Fluency (English)
ii. Reading Comprehension (English)
iii. Vocabulary Development (English)
iv. Speaking and Listening Skills (English)
v. Writing (English)
vi. Mathematics Skills |
